Let’s Go…to Sligo
New Wine Ireland has
been running a family holiday conference in Sligo for the past
couple of years. Several hundred people from all over the island
of Ireland had gathered for a week of bible teaching, seminars,
worship, ministry and fun. In 2008 the conference runs from the
evening of Sunday 13th July until midday on Friday 18th
July, and promises to be the best yet.
The conference is
based in the Clarion Hotel, which has great facilities for
children, teenagers and adults. There will be a crèche and
pre-school group running in the mornings for small children.
The children’s and youth events are designed to be a lot of fun,
but also times for teaching and growing in their Christian
faith. For any parent knowing that their family are having a
good time is essential, and we work hard at running really good
programmes for all ages.
This year, Canon
John Hughes is coming to do the morning Bible teaching; he is an
outstanding bible teacher, and the vicar of a large church in
Birmingham. There will also be a wide range of seminars, evening
worship celebrations, late night fun – and time to relax, make
new friends and catch up with others. Kathryn Scott will be
leading the worship.
Many people coming
to the conference choose to stay in Yeats Holiday Village, a
lovely self-catering accommodation just across the road from the
conference venue. There are houses sleeping up to six, or
apartments for 3-4. Or if you prefer there are plenty of B&B in
the town, or pitch your tent or caravan at Rosses Point just a
few miles away.
You can come on
your own, with your family, with friends, or as part of a church
group. One church leader who has brought a church group for the
past two years is Rev Mark Harvey, Rector of St Mary’s Ballybeen.
He comments:
“On both occasions,
we have taken a group of 20-25 people from St Mary’s to New Wine
Ireland at Sligo. It’s been a great way to build friendships,
especially for new people, and also to enable people to catch a
vision for mission and growth in a faith-building environment.
Our folks have loved the location, the accommodation and the
provision of quality programmes for all ages. Testament to the
impact of the conference is the fact that people are now making
the event a definite part of their summer plans!”
